It has been a little while since I have posted, with all the end of school year craziness and my work schedule, but I am so thankful to take time off this summer and work on my Etsy shop and blog. I have lots of new ideas and projects in the works.

One of my goals for this year (I am a little late) is to offer a monthly free pattern and more embroidery tutorials. My husband sent me the most beautiful bouquet of roses for our wedding anniversary last week, and it was the perfect inspiration for my first free embroidery pattern.

For this pattern, we will use the woven wheel, satin stitch, lazy daisies, and french knots. I used the following colors from DMC threads: 746, 760, 761, 224, 3836, 987, 3348

For the 3 roses, I used DMC colors 760, 761, and 224, 6 strands each to make a woven wheel.

TIPS:

• If you transfer the pattern with “stick and stitch” paper, you may just use it to make your 5 anchor lines and then go back and weave the thread after it is rinsed away and air dried. I do not love using stick and stitch with woven wheel because my roses look flat afterwards.
• It is easy to snag your thread as you are weaving it. You can turn your needle backwards to weave it through or use a blunt ended needle.
• Do not tighten too much as you are weaving your thread, but you also don’t want it too loose.

For the leaves, use 3 strands of DMC 987. I started out using a leaf stitch, but did more of a satin stitch. Start in the middle and don’t go all the way down, and then angle your next stitches down towards the middle to fill in.

Lazy Daisies, or broken chain stitch, with 3 strands of DMC 3836

French knots with 6 strands of DMC 746, using 2 wraps. Afterwards, I felt it needed something else, so I added some light green french knots with DMC 3348.
